Wensleydale School students will go on to “make a big difference to the local economy and community”

16th August 2018

Wensleydale School and Sixth Form students were celebrating today after securing impressive results in their A-Levels and BTEC exams.

Julia Polley, Headteacher, said: “The Class of 2018 has done incredibly well.

“There have been some really strong results that have opened so many doors for our students. Four out of five of all our young people attained the grades needed to go their first choice universities or employers.”

The school’s business offering was one of the subjects that shone, with most students achieving not just their expected grade – but their aspirational target.

Charles Barnett, Head of the Sixth Form, said: “We think this is really exciting. We are developing a brand new business and innovation offer across for our older students to respond directly to the needs of local economy.

“Aside from our students going to university or college, we have people who have secured apprenticeships in fields as diverse as hospitality and catering, education and the energy sector. This means that our students are leaving us with the skills, mindset and aptitude that are securing them exciting opportunities.”

Among the successful students was Adam Hunt, who was the schools strongest performer at A-Level and will now go on to study mechanical engineering. Jodie Taylor and Natasha Fowler have secured apprenticeships in Education and Tom Reynolds achieved the grades needed to get an apprenticeship and Zoe Verity has already started her Accountancy apprenticeship.

Mr Barnett added: “For the economy in the Dales to thrive we need to ensure that our young people have an entrepreneurial approach and strong values.  That is why I am so proud of these students. They are going to make a big difference to the local economy and community.”
