Safeguarding & Child Protection

Our team

Our commitment

The Wensleydale School & Sixth Form staff, Governors and Volunteers are committed to safeguarding and promoting the Welfare of all of its pupils. Each pupil’s welfare is of paramount importance. We recognise that some children are potentially at greater risk of harm. We recognise that children who are abused may find it difficult to develop a sense of self-worth and to view the world in a positive way. Whilst at school, their behaviour may be challenging. We recognise that some children who have experienced abuse may harm others. We will always take a considered and sensitive approach in order that we can support all of our pupils. We will adopt a child-centred approach to our work, we will act in the best interests of our children and we will ensure that everyone is aware of their safeguarding responsibilities. Our school works in partnership with the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (NYSCP). Our school has a pivotal role to play in multi-agency safeguarding arrangements NYSCP, and contributes to multi-agency working in line with the statutory guidance ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018’. The three statutory safeguarding partners (North Yorkshire County Council, Health, and Police) have made arrangements to allow all schools and colleges in the local area to be fully engaged, involved and included in the new safeguarding arrangements. As a named as a relevant agency we are under a statutory duty to co-operate with the published arrangements.
