The exam season begins as the weather warms up!

20th April 2018

On the hottest day of the year so far, GCSE Drama students gamely performed in front of the external examiner on Thursday. As always the preparation for this moment has been lengthy and at times  a real struggle, as students attempt to learn monologues and lines for their chosen play. Indeed as late as Wednesday afternoon, I downed tools to help some students learn their monologues, a welcome distraction to be honest from budgets and policies! With the examiner in the building, tension was definitely rising on Thursday morning, however it is with a good deal of pride that I can report that the students performed – literally- at the top of their game and delivered worthy pieces of drama. The ‘can-do’ attitude was clearly in action and they should be proud of their achievements. We will have to wait and see how their efforts stack up in the summer results, but no one could have asked more.

With a change in the weather the field was reopened this week and what a difference it makes. We are lucky to have such fabulous open space and to see students of all ages  playing football together, is a real pleasure. How the rules of ‘lunchtime field football’ go though, I’m not sure how there can be 4 balls in action at the same time, but then I don’t really understand the offside rule either. More on the sporting front, Maciej Nuprejczyk in year 7 has been selected to play badminton for North Yorkshire this week. This is a fantastic achievement for such a young player – Well Done Maciej.

Leyburn is also getting ready to host the Tour de Yorkshire in Leyburn next month and the Town council has asked that we try and get some interesting relevant decorations around the site which should catch the commentators eyes as they fly overhead. Not only that, but the huge soundstage which is being erected in Leyburn centre, will have number of musical performances throughout the day, including some of our soloists. Even more of a reason to come down and see the Tour .
