A special day for our Combined Cadet Force (CCF)

6th February 2023

On Thursday 2 February, we were extremely proud to hold the first official passing out ceremony for Wensleydale CCF.

Parents and families of the cadets attended the ceremony, which was opened by Headteacher, 2nd Lieutenant Julia Polley.

Cadets were then presented with their blue berets by Captain Taylor, and Contingent Commander Julie Cooper gave a speech about the importance and role of a CFF. She said, “Today is a very important day for you, our cadets.  The role of the CCF is really important in our school. You lead by example, and by wearing your uniform correctly you become a leader who other students look up to.

“CCF teaches you about communication – how to talk to different people, how to give commands and how to follow instructions. The skills you learn in CCF are proven to be very useful in later life. Universities and employers value your leadership and sense of responsibility. When you are in CCF uniform you are seen as a leader, a role model, are respected and have a responsibility to do your best. Always.

“We are proud of you and all that you have achieved so far – your willingness to learn new things, stand out and be different – for all the right reasons.”

Captain Taylor then presented the promotions, and the ceremony was closed with a prayer by our new CCF Padre, Rev Gillian Lunn.
